Jewish American Short Stories

Mondays, 10:30am - 12pm

October 20, 27, and November 3, 10, and 17

John Incledon, retired professor from Albright College, will lead a short course on short stories of Jewish fiction. There is no cost to take the course, but participants are expected to order and receive the text we’ll be using by October 21: American Jewish Fiction, ed. by Gerald Shapiro, University of Nebraska Press, 1999).

From Gerald Shapiro, the editor of the text for the course: "Over and over again [yes, in 2025 too!], you’ll see the same themes explored. … In every generation the story must be told, the Passover Haggadah tells us. … The fiction of American Jews, as it has always been, a series of stories told along the way to wherever it is we’re headed. Their fundamental value lies in their power to remind us of who we were and where we’ve been, and in the process, to give us the courage and the purpose to keep pushing forward to whatever lies in wait for us ahead.”

Join the course and dig into some of the best Jewish fiction of the 20th Century.
